The Montana Tech Corps Handbook
Community Technology Resources from VISTA Projects
by Laura Hassler

The AmeriCorps Member Handbook, developed for the Montana Technology Corps AmeriCorps program, is an evolving resource intended to provide Members with immediate access to the information most pertinent to their term of service. More importantly, according to its developer, Project Director Laura Hassler, it acts as a "survival guide," helping Members get through their first few weeks of AmeriCorps service when the "who, what, where, when, why and how" questions are most numerous. The Handbook is divided into four sections: General Program Overview (program specific); Resources; Reporting Requirements; and AmeriCorps Provisions and Guidelines. The materials are placed in a three-ring binder so that Members can personalize it by adding training materials, journal entries, pictures, and so on that they accumulate throughout the year. The handbook was adapted from The Montana Campus Compact AmeriCorps programs.

The Handbook is a valuable resource to those serving at technology-focused sites around the country, offering up a free sample of how to organize a successful technology program and a meaningful year of service.
